The NBA Finals has reached its 74th installment, but this series is like no other as it’s held at a completely neutral site without the influential presence of fans. The lack of a crowd didn’t appear to rattle the “home team” Lake Show as 35-year-old King James terrorized the Heat, confirming his incredible durability and fine-wine tendencies. The Brow also raged through Miami’s defense, which proved to be incapable of keeping him in check. Game 1 also saw KCP hustling hard to erase Herro’s layup, Iguodala striking again, and LA draining 3’s.

Once again, Anthony Davis proved why he’s the big man on (Orlando’s) campus with an exuberant showing in a thoroughly dominant day in the painted area to coincide with a pair of triples. His game-high 34 points ties him for the third-most points scored by a Laker in an NBA Finals debut, only behind Shaquille O’Neil and George Mikan.

LeBron James’ one-year hiatus from the NBA Finals is perhaps exactly what he needed to recharge his batteries as he was exceptional, logging one assist shy of a triple-double. If this performance is a precursor of what’s to come, then his former Miami squad better batten down the hatches.

The LA Lakers and Miami Heat clearly made quick turn arounds from their non-playoff finishes a season ago to emerge as the league’s top two teams amidst a worldwide pandemic. Part one of the NBA Finals’ best-of-seven-games saga saw LA operate like a well-oiled machine as they pumped out the win by a jarring 18-point margin, with LBJ and AD looking near unstoppable.
