The theme in Saturday’s NBA Playoff games were about getting even as the Nuggets and Raptors both evened their respective series’ against the Clippers and Celtics. Denver’s bounce-back game was fueled by their dynamic duo of Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray while Toronto’s big Game 4 was defined by all-around contributions from the reigning champs’ top two players.

Right as everyone was writing off the Nuggets after a Game 1 blowout loss, Denver’s top two players looked like such right from the jump as Nikola Jokic & Jamal Murray played at a high level, especially in the first half. They became the first Nuggets teammates to each score 20+ points in a single half of playoff action during the 21st century.

The Toronto Raptors had the benefit of relying on Kawhi Leonard to take them to the promised land last season but this year have approached opponents with a much more balanced effort. Still, Kyle Lowry and Pascal Siakam are the leaders of this team and stepped up in a must-win game for the reigning champs.

Everyone is aware of the sensational stepbacks that are regularly featured on James Harden’s and Steph Curry’s highlight reels, but Jamal Murray’s stepback might be the most lethal of them all as he creates premium separation with one move of extreme deceleration, proving that even a 2x DPOY can be put on skates at the hands of the Kentucky hooper.

3x All-Defense member Serge Ibaka used to be one of the most feared rim protectors in the league as a former 2x block champ. While his blocks per game used to be 3.7 per game, they were down to just 0.8 this season as the 6th man in the 6ix. However, the 30-year-old had a vintage defensive play against Theis in Game 4 that brought out the classic Mutombo finger wag.

Not only does Denver’s floor general have one of the best stepbacks in the game, but his improved footwork is a big part of his ascension as one of the league’s top point guards as Paul George learned first hand this weekend.

While Kyle Lowry and Pascal Siakam are the Raptors best two overall players, Toronto’s top offensive player is likely Fred VanVleet who can be lights out from distance at times. This wasn’t exactly one of those games as he finished 6-19 from the field (however, 5-11 on 3PA’s) but he still managed to drain this shot at the buzzer to give the Raps some momentum going into halftime that they rode to a big Game 4 victory to tie the series 2-2.
