As Washington Commanders & old Redskins fans celebrate Ryan Kerrigan on his 34th birthday, check out some of the best records to know about the legendary Edge Rusher.

Ryan Kerrigan became one of the best Washington football players of the 2010s after being selected with the 16th overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. At the time, he was expected to become a leader of a defense that already included star players such as London Fletcher, and the then-Washington Redskins were hoping that he could take the team’s defensive unit to new heights. This is exactly what Kerrigan ended up doing, as he set numerous franchise records and became one of the most beloved players in the nation’s capitol.

Born and raised in Indiana, Kerrigan kept his talents local when he committed to play football at Purdue University. The young standout played all four seasons there before declaring for the NFL Draft, and Washington made an excellent choice by selecting him in the first round. The stud Edge Rusher quickly made a name for himself in the pros thanks to his physical play-style, becoming one of the best pass rushers in the league and one of D.C.’s most recognizable stars.

Kerrigan’s effective play style, dedicated work ethic, and passionate community service made him a popular player in the District. He etched his name into franchise history by capturing several important club records, including becoming the team’s all time sack leader (since sacks became official in 1982). After a decade in the District of Columbia, Kerrigan spent one year with the division-rival Philadelphia Eagles before calling it quits. Just before retiring, he signed a one-day contract with the Commanders to end his career in the burgundy and gold.
