The ‘Best of the Day’ is a daily PSO original series showcasing the most significant stories, highlights, and facts going on in the land of the NFL, NBA, & MLB every day. Get a recap on EVERYTHING that happened on 4/17 here

Steph Curry’s recent surge continued on Saturday in Beantown as he led the Warriors into Boston and ended up having an epic duel with Jayson Tatum. While Curry set or extended more NBA records, it was Tatum’s Celtics that came out on top of the matchup for Boston’s sixth straight victory in the Game of the Day that used a Kemba dagger to essentially seal the victory.

Steph’s unreal bucket wasn’t enough for the highlight of the day though as Mookie Betts made an amazing game-saving grab vs. San Diego that lifted the reigning champs to a second consecutive crazy win. PSO also released its NFL Scouting Report on explosive RB prospect Travis Etienne and celebrated the anniversary of Barry Bonds’ 500th career Home Run.

Here is the best of the day from April 17, 2021:

Jayson Tatum & Steph Curry had an epic duel as Boston wins 6th in a row

In the battle of Golden State vs. Boston, it ended up becoming Curry vs. Tatum with both superstars going off for 44+ points on the evening. Curry’s in the midst of the greatest stretch of his future Hall of Fame career, but even his 47 points (including clutch buckets and miraculous shots) weren’t enough to slow down the red-hot Celtics who won their sixth game in a row and are playing their best basketball of the year.

Jayson Tatum‘s rise to the occasion is nothing new as he’s now earned Player of the Day for the third time in just the last 10 days after failing to win the honor one time this season before that. His recent tear after the All-Star break has fueled Boston’s success, which also benefitted from a clutch Kemba Walker dagger with about 20 seconds remaining. Tatum stepped up without Jaylen Brown as the promising duo continues to reach new heights and prove their elite status by doing what a superstar would do: stop another superstar from entering the building and walking away victorious.

HOW UTAH OVERCOMES THIS ADVERSITY IS A TRUE TEST OF THEIR CHAMPIONSHIP CHANCES

The Utah Jazz currently hold the best record in the NBA, sitting at first place in the tougher Western Conference. Unfortunately, Utah lost their best player Donovan Mitchell to an ankle injury on Friday night against Indiana and will now miss several games. For the first time this season, the Jazz will now be faced with a major blow due to injury, and will be faced with adversity like many of the other Western Contenders have seen.

A large part of Utah’s success comes from the fact that they’ve had minimal injury problems all year long. With Mitchell out for at least several games, the Jazz will have to perform at their best to keep their impressive record. This time period without Mitchell will be a true test to how great Utah really is, and will challenge players like Rudy GobertMike ConleyBojan Bogdonavic, and Jordan Clarkson to step up.

The LA Clippers have played multiple games without Kawhi Leonard and/or Paul George, the LA Lakers have gone without players Lebron James and Anthony Davis, Denver is now missing Jamal Murray, and Portland has been without CJ McCollum for a while this season. Utah now joins the list of Western contenders with injury problems, and will have to showcase why they deserve the best record in the NBA.
