The NFL announced its yearly awards Saturday night to celebrate some of the game’s best players. There were no major surprises as Aaron Rodgers headlined the event by winning Most Valuable Player but Aaron Donald edged out T.J. Watt for the DPOY despite less production due to Donald’s impact on the game by commanding double and triple teams. As the NBA has evolved, so have the Bigs, who are more versatile than ever before in order to adapt. Curry and Jokic both went off for 50 points in losses while LeBron drained the double daggers in 2OT vs. Detroit.

Here is the best of the day from February 6, 2021:

2020 NFL Awards were announced led by Aaron Rodgers winning MVP

With just one game to go before the 2020 NFL season is in the books, the league announced its annual awards on Saturday. The award winners were headlined by Aaron Rodgers taking home his third MVP after one of the greatest seasons ever by a quarterback. He finished the season with a league-leading 70.7 CMP% for 4,299 YDS with 48 TD (led the NFL) and just 5 INT. He also led the NFL in RTG (121.5), QBR (84.3), TD% (9.1), and INT% (1.0%). He quarterbacked a talented but flawed Packers team to the No. 1 seed in the NFC with a 13-3 record and came within one game of reaching the Super Bowl, losing the NFC title game to the Buccaneers.

Other major award winners included generational DT Aaron Donald winning his third DPOY after another special season, and Derrick Henry earning the OPOY after leading all RBs in YDS (2,027), TD (17) and YPG (126.7). Browns HC Kevin Stefanski earned COY as he led Cleveland to its first playoff appearance since 2002 and first win since 1994. This year’s rookie class showed out, as QB Justin Herbert won the OROY after breaking numerous rookie records, while DE Chase Young anchored a dominant D-Line in DC. After nearly losing his life two years ago from a broken leg, QB Alex Smith earned Comeback Player of the Year for his inspirational return.

Led by Nikola Jokic, the NBA’s best Bigs are as versatile as the league has ever seen

In the new age of the NBA, plenty of things have evolved and changed just in the last decade. It’s mostly resulted in better offenses with NBA scoring at the highest marks in history and 3-point records being broken on a seemingly nightly basis. One contributing factor to that has been the rise of the versatile big man.

All across the league, NBA Centers and Power Forwards are regularly standing outside the perimeter draining deep shots. This used to be an extremely rare trait for a 6’10” player or taller to be capable of and why Dirk Nowitzki’s career was so unique. In 2021, there’s a plethora of Nowitzki-type Big Men who are not only extremely effective in the paint, but now also pose a threat from outside. This is great for spacing the floor, removing the defensive rim protector from the interior as he’s now forced to respect the jump shot, which gives the offense’s ball handlers much more room to make plays.

Nikola Jokic is asserting himself as the league’s best Big Man with a MVP-caliber season that has him putting up 27 PPG, 11.5 RPG, and 8.5 APG. He’s also doing this on an efficient 57% FG/39% 3P/84% FT. Jokic is already solidifying himself as the greatest passer and triple-double threat of any Big Man ever, and his outside offensive game really takes it to the next level. He along with Joel EmbiidAnthony DavisKarl-Anthony TownsNikola Vucevic, and countless others have unique versatility that has truly changed the game.
