The final two games of the NFL Playoffs Divisional Round took place Sunday as the Browns took on the defending champion Chiefs and the Buccaneers-Saints squared off for a third time. Kansas City kept their hopes of a repeat alive, but will be concerned over the health of Patrick Mahomes, who suffered a concussion, while Tom Brady and the Bucs the defeated Drew Brees and Saints in a battle between two legendary QBs. Also, two of the NBA’s top young stars, Zion Williamson and Luka Doncic went off and PSO’s review of Sunday’s NBA action.

Here is the best of the day from January 17, 2021:

Tom Brady eliminated Drew Brees in what’s likely his final game

The Buccaneers are headed to the NFC Championship game for the first time since the franchise’s first and only Super Bowl title in 2003. Tampa Bay knocked off their NFC South rivals in New Orleans on Sunday, 30-20. Tom Brady, who struggled in his two regular season matchups with a combined 2 TDs and 5 INTs in two losses to the Saints, was efficient in the game that mattered. His numbers don’t stand out, but Brady was in control most of the evening against an excellent Saints defense, finishing 19-33 for 199 yards and two TDs. The story of the game was the Tampa Bay defense, which forced four New Orleans turnovers.

The Bucs shut down the Saints passing game, blanking All-Pro WR Michael Thomas (0 REC) and causing Drew Brees to have the worst playoff peformance of his career. Brees finished 19-34 for just 134 YDS, 1 TD and 3 INT. Questions have surrounded the NFL’s all-time leading passer, as Brees, 42, has mulled retirement this season. And, it now appears that this was likely the legendary QB’s final game. If it is the end, then, despite another bitter postseason ending, Brees and HC Sean Payton can hang their hats on an era filled with unprecedented levels of success in NOLA that culminated in capturing the franchise’s only Lombardi Trophy in 2009.

The ONLY thing stopping Patrick Mahomes from becoming the GOAT is injuries

COLORS KEY | FULL KC FUTURE OUTLOOK

Despite not playing for three weeks, Patrick Mahomes came out firing until he left Sunday’s game with a concussion in the third quarter. Many question how Kansas City would perform against a hot Browns team after seeming like they were on cruise control for a good part of the last few weeks of the season, but they silenced any doubters by taking down Cleveland even without their QB playing during a critical fourth quarter. Not much has been done by opposing defenses to slow down Mahomes up to this point, so it’s fair to say that injury is the only thing standing in the way of him lighting up the field.

As the Chiefs prepare to host the AFC Championship game for the third straight season, Mahomes’ status will certainly be the main story to keep track of heading into Championship Sunday. If he’s healthy, they’ll be the favorite to win another championship, giving Mahomes two titles in three years as a starting QB, putting him on track to be considered the GOAT. The only thing that’s standing in his way, isn’t any type of scheme, players, or inadequate performance. It’s only injuries.
