Jayson Tatum exploded for 50 points to will Boston to Game 3 victory over Brooklyn
The Boston Celtics were able to get back into the series and avoid going down 3-0 to the Brooklyn Nets thanks to Jayson Tatum‘s explosion in Game 3. Tatum went off for 50 points, seven assists, and six rebounds, out-dueling James Harden, who finished with 41 points, 10 assists, and seven rebounds for Brooklyn.
Tatum has taken his already impressive game to another level, as he has now recorded all four of his career 50+ point games over his last 22 contests. At just 23 years old, the 2017 No. 3 overall pick has already tied Celtics legend Larry Bird for the most such games in franchise history. Tatum’s four games with 50+ points leads the entire NBA this season. While Boston likely won’t win this series vs. a juggernaut of a team in the Nets, their future appears as bright as any team’s with Tatum blossoming into a superstar in 2021.
Kevin Durant also had a big game for Brooklyn, finishing with 39 points, but the major storyline heading into Game 3 was Kyrie Irving. It was Irving’s first game back in Boston since bolting to join Durant on the Nets in 2019 during free agency. The crowd was on him from the beginning, and Irving struggled throughout the game, finishing with just 16 points on 6-of-17 shooting. The Nets will likely need a better performance from Irving if they want to rebound in Game 4 and take a commanding 3-1 series lead.
