1965: With Atlanta Braves 3B Eddie Matthews’ 28th HR of the season in a win over the Pittsburgh Pirates, he and Hank Aaron surpassed Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig as the top HR-hitting duo in MLB history (773 combined)

1961: Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Atlanta Braves, ending their MLB modern era record-setting losing streak of 23 consecutive games

1945: Brooklyn Dodgers SS Tommy Brown became the youngest (17 years, 8 months, and 14 days old) player to hit a HR in MLB history

1920: The 1st meeting to form the American Pro Football Association was held in Canton, Ohio (would later become the NFL); multi-sport legend Jim Thorpe was officially elected President
