1959: Dodgers SP Sandy Koufax struck out 18 in a victory over the Giants to set a new NL record (tied the MLB record)

1895: The very 1st professional football game was played in Latrobe, PA; QB John Rollier was paid $10

1894: Phillies OF Billy Hamilton set an MLB record with 7 stolen bases in a single game
