1933: In his 1,249th consecutive game played, New York Yankees 1B Lou Gehrig and MGR Joe McCarthy were both ejected; McCarthy would face a 3-game suspension, but Gehrig did not and was able to keep his streak alive

1870: After winning 81 consecutive games since forming the previous year, the Cincinnati Red Stockings (1st fully-professional baseball club) suffered their very 1st loss at the hands of the Brooklyn Atlantics, 8-7 in 11 innings
