2000: Arizona Diamondbacks SP Randy Johnson celebrated his 37th birthday by becoming the fastest pitcher to reach 3,000 career strikeouts in MLB history by GP (362) & IP (2,471.2), both records he still holds today
2000: Jacksonville Jaguars WR Jimmy Smith set a franchise record with 291 receiving yards to go with 15 receptions & 3 receiving TDs against the vaunted 2000 Baltimore Ravens defense during a 39-36 loss
1989: Deion Sanders became the 1st and only professional athlete to hit a HR and record a punt RET-TD within the same week, doing so in his NFL debut with the Falcons and rookie season with the Yankees
1989: Playing in just his 91st career game, Colts RB Eric Dickerson became the fastest player to reach 10,000 rushing yards in NFL history, shattering Jim Brown’s record of 98 games. Dickerson still holds the NFL record to this day
1881: With 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th inning, Troy Trojans 1B Roger Connor hit the 1st grand slam in history to defeat the Worcester Ruby Legs 8-7
1858: The culminating game of the 1st “World Series”, between the newly-formed NABP’s Brooklyn and New York teams, resulted in the 1st HR in baseball history by John Holden. The 1st MLB World Series didn’t officially take place until 1903
