May 7th, 2022 marks the 89th birthday of Johnny Unitas so it’s a great time to look at the top 5 Indianapolis Colts players of all time with him highlighting the list.
Originating as the Baltimore Colts in 1953, Hall of Fame QB Johnny Unitas and WR Raymond Berry led the franchise to quickly become one of the best pro football organizations in the world which carried over once the Super Bowl era began, appearing in two of the first five NFL Super Bowl Championships.
The franchise then surprisingly moved to Indianapolis overnight in 1984 where they struggled to find the same level of success until they drafted a QB out of Tennessee in 1998. Starting 10 years later in 2008, the Colts began playing their games in their fantastic home stadium, Lucas Oil Stadium. Indianapolis has had the luxury of introducing over a dozen players and franchise personnel to the Football Hall of Fame.
With three NFL Championships and two Super Bowls under their belt, there isn’t much more to prove except the continuation of winning. An intense stadium to walk into with the sea of dark blue and white screaming in the opposing team’s face. The Colts are one of a kind team that has had many legendary players to strengthen this list. Honorable mention includes: C Jeff Saturday, WR Reggie Wayne, DE Robert Mathis
