Not many expected Robbie Ray to win the 2021 American League Cy Young Award after he had an abysmal 2020 season (6.62 ERA). Ray proved all of his doubters wrong in a walk year and led the AL in five major pitching categories, while having one of the best Starting Pitching seasons in Blue Jays history. Now that the new Cy Young winner has legitimate hardware on his shelf, he will look to capitalize on the free agent market.

There isn’t much that many can predict correctly throughout the course of an MLB season, which is one of the game’s many desirable traits. Robbie Ray has always accumulated high strikeout numbers, but in 2021 he used his wipeout slider and rising fastball to keep hitters in the ballpark. Ray will positively impact any team going forward and will command a strong contract in free agency.
