The Sports world on Friday was alerted of Cam Newton re-signing with the Patriots after a rough season for the signal-caller. Still, the rushing element he brings to the table was too good to pass up at the low guarantee NE is providing on an incentive-based deal. Denver-Memphis came down to the wire until the Joker took over with the final five points for DEN and the game-sealing contest on Ja Morant to cap off his phenomenal performance.

Here is the best of the day from March 12, 2021:

New England Patriots re-signed QB Cam Newton

Cam Newton will stay on as quarterback in Foxborough for another season after re-signing with the Patriots on Friday. The contract is just a 1y/$3.5M deal guaranteed, however, it is incentive-laden and will be worth up to $14M if the former No.1 pick performs to the level he’s shown he’s capable of in the past. The 31-year-old signed with the Pats on a modest one-year deal last offseason after Tom Brady left in free agency.

Newton’s first season in New England was a mixed bag, as he threw for just 2,657 yards along with eight touchdowns and 10 interceptions. However, he was as dangerous as ever on the ground, rushing for 592 yards and 12 touchdowns, his most rushing scores since the 14 he scored his rookie season, and the most among QBs in 2020.

Newton came out playing well with his new team despite the abnormal offseason. However, he tested positive for COVID-19 in Week 4, and his production took a noticeable dip upon his return. The Patriots finished 7-8 with Newton under center and 7-9 overall, missing the playoffs for the first time since 2008.
