Denver Broncos S Justin Simmons becomes the highest-paid Safety in the NFL
The Denver Broncos and Pro Bowl S Justin Simmons agreed to a 4y/$61M contract extension with $35M guaranteed on Friday. With an average annual salary of $15.25M, Simmons will be the highest-paid player at his position in the league. The move comes after Denver placed the franchise tag on Simmons for the second straight offseason on March 5.
Playing on the franchise tag during the 2020 campaign, Simmons made his first career Pro Bowl after racking up 96 tackles, one fumble recovery, and a career-high five interceptions. The 27-year-old has blossomed into one of the best safeties in the NFL over the past three seasons, nabbing 12 interceptions while playing every defensive snap since 2018. The Boston College product has spent his entire five year career with the Broncos, who selected him in the third round in the 2016 NFL draft.
