Buster Posey officially announced his retirement from baseball Thursday, ending a historic career that will almost surely land him in the hall of fame. Posey was the franchise cornerstone for a San Francisco Giants team that won three World Series in a five-year span. He leaves the club as arguably the most influential player to winning in its history along with Willie Mays. Posey’s trophy cabinet is littered with accomplishments: NL ROY, NL MVP, 4x Silver Slugger, 7 all-star appearances, and of course three World Series wins.

Bigger than any of those awards, however, is the lasting impact Posey has had on the Giants organization. He was drafted to return the team to winning ways following the Barry Bonds era and made a splash immediately, winning ROY and leading the Giants to their first title since moving to San Francisco in 1958. He followed that up with two more titles over the next four years and continued to have success as the most productive Catcher in the MLB during the 2010s.
