David Price Was the Most Successful Rays SP Ever
As a Cy Young winner who holds multiple franchise records, David Price is the most successful pitcher in Tampa Bay Rays history

David Price was drafted by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays with the first overall selection in the 2007 MLB Draft, and he made his major league debut soon after in 2008. The former Vanderbilt star made an immediate impact as a starter, recording double-digit wins in each season with the Rays from 2009 to 2014. Though he has since declined from his Rays days, Price has already established himself as the most successful pitcher in Tampa Bay history (established in 1998) with the accolades he accumulated while in Florida.

It is not often in the MLB that a player makes almost an immediate jump from being drafted to entering the majors. David Price, however, was so highly touted as a prospect that he spent less than a year in the minors before being called up to the Rays towards the end of the 2008 season. From then on, Price became the Rays’ new ace and was selected to four All-Star games in five seasons.
The Vanderbilt product’s time with Tampa was short, but he achieved quite a bit during that span of time. His best season came in 2012 when he led the MLB in ERA (2.54) and tied for the most wins (20), winning the prestigious AL Cy Young Award, the first to do so in franchise history. Though he only spent five full seasons in Tampa Bay, Price has undoubtedly cemented his place as the most successful pitcher to ever play for the Rays with the facts and records to prove it.
