Bates’ deal is worth $64M over four years, making the 26-year-old the fourth highest-paid safety in NFL history. Atlanta didn’t stop at Bates, as the team signed G Chris Lindstrom to a five-year extension worth $105M, making him the league’s top-earning guard. The Falcons additionally acquired TE Jonnu Smith from the Patriots in exchange for a 2023 seventh-round draft pick. Atlanta continued to make a flurry of moves, including the signing of DT David Onyemata from the Saints on a three-year, $35M deal and the re-signing of FB Keith Smith to a one-year deal. To wrap up day one, the Falcons gave LB Kaden Ellis and P Bradley Pinion each got three-year contracts.
