Ahead of this season, the San Diego Padres signed Fernando Tatis Jr. to a record-breaking 14y/$340M extension. While this may have appeared rushed or bold at the time, Tatis’ 2021 campaign has shown exactly why the Padres front office was so eager to keep him in San Diego. Despite an overall underwhelming performance by the Padres this season, their franchise players has delivered with one of the best offensive seasons in franchise history

  • Only Greg Vaughn has hit more HR (50 in 1998) during 1 season than Fernando Tatis Jr. (42 in 2021) in Padres history
  • Tatis Jr. has the t-most HR (7) during 1 season at Dodger stadium in MLB history (tying Todd Helton)
  • Youngest player (22 years old) to sign a $300M+ contract in MLB history
  • Only player to record 35+ HR & 25+ SB during their 1st 150 career GP in the Modern Era
  • If he plays out his new contract, he’ll join Tony Gwynn & Trevor Hoffman as the only players to play 14+ seasons w/ SD

FERNANDO TATIS JR.’S 2021 SEASON WAS 1 OF THE GREATEST PADRES SEASONS EVER

COLORS KEY | FULL PADRES OUTLOOK

Fernando Tatis Jr.’s 2021 season has been nothing short of remarkable. He leads the league in SLG, has hit over 40 HR and has stolen 25 bases. The Padres may not have made it to the League Championship Series with him yet, especially not this season, but this should take nothing away from his individual performance. Fernando Tatis Jr.’s 2021 season has to be considered one of the greatest offensive seasons in San Diego Padres history with a NL MVP possibly to show for it.
