Tonight’s matchups across the league featured many top teams, but many of them without key players. An impressive fourth quarter offensively propelled a solid Atlanta team over a struggling Golden State squad, whereas Memphis posted 45 points in a dominant third quarter during their victory over Philly without Joel Embiid. Chicago finally snapped its six-game losing streak with a home defeat over Brooklyn who was missing James Harden and Kevin Durant.

Lonzo Ball was balling in New Orleans’ dub over Houston. Ball had 27 points, 24 of which came from beyond the arc in a franchise-record setting night. The battle of LA wasn’t much of a battle as the Clippers conquered a Lakers squad who is still missing LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Aaron Gordan faced his former team and had 24 points as Denver denied Orlando’s upset bid late in the game, overcoming a large deficit. The biggest blow out of the night was in Boston, where they beat up on the depleted Hornets.

Here are the best NBA highlights, facts, performers, and takeaways from April 4th, 2021:

LONZO BALL’S DEVELOPED JUMPER IS ELEVATING HIS GAME TO THE NEXT LEVEL

Before Lonzo Ball was drafted to the Los Angeles Lakers, skeptics were worried about his weird jump-shot form and whether or not that would translate to the NBA game. Early in his career, the critics seemed to be right. Ball shot an abysmal 30.5% from the three-point line in his rookie season, and 36% from the field, not to mention his Shaq-esque 45.1% free throw percentage.

Since his rookie year, Ball has improved his three-point percentage by 8%, his two-point percentage by 7.7%, his overall shooting percentage by 6.5%, and his free-throw percentage by a staggering 31.6%. Ball has been proving his haters wrong as he has continued to develop, and has shown that he can have an effective jump shot that makes him a threat in all aspects of the game. His improvements were on full display during Sunday night’s clash with Houston.

Ball made eight three-pointers, which is his career-high. He also tallied nine assists, making him the first player in franchise history to make 8+ three-pointers and record 8+ assists in the same game. This is even more impressive considering it was his first game back since March 18th because of a hip injury. It seemed like that time away from the game may have unlocked something. Ball’s tired of his jump-shot critics and used that energy as motivation to improve his stroke and become an all-around weapon on the court.
