Just four days after Saturday set a NBA record for the most triple-doubles in one day (5), the League broke the record once again with six this time. James Harden, Domantas Sabonis, Draymond Green, Russell Westbrook, Nikola Jokic, and Ben Simmons all put together quality performances that helped the NBA make history for the second time in a week.

With KD, Kyrie, and Blake Griffin out, James Harden put the team on his back with a 40-point triple-double vs. Indiana. Draymond Green helped lead the Warriors after Steph’s injury, Westbrook’s triple-double was overshadowed by De’Aaron Fox’s game-winner, the Joker barely scored during his triple-double in a blowout over Charlotte, and Ben Simmons contributed in all areas with Joel Embiid out. It was Forkan Kurkmaz that was the hero for Philly to clinch OT, but the reigning 2x MVP took over from there to lead the Bucks win.

Milwaukee’s biggest news of the day was their acquisition of P.J. Tucker from Houston as the Rockets extended their franchise-record losing streak to 18 games. Ja Morant put in the game-winning layup over Miami, Jerami Grant drained the dagger over the Raptors, and Luka magic was seen all over the floor against the Clippers. Cleveland put Boston back to .500 and San Antonio took down the Bulls during an eventful day in the NBA.

Here are the best NBA highlights, facts, performers, and takeaways from March 17th, 2021:

ALL EYES ON HOUSTON WITH THE TRADE DEADLINE AROUND THE CORNER

After Wednesday’s defeat to the Golden State Warriors, the Houston Rockets have now lost a staggering 18 games in a row. In the last calendar year, the Rockets have traded away three of their best players, including big names like James Harden, Russell Westbrook, and most recently, P.J. Tucker. It is clear that Houston is open for business before the trade deadline, in hopes of securing a brighter future.

Houston’s March 17th trade of P.J. Tucker to the Milwaukee Bucks was another example of where the Rockets are at in their pursuit to flip valuable veterans for future draft picks. It is apparent that the Rockets’ front office will be taking plenty of phone calls with negotiations ready and an abundance of interested parties considering their list of potential trade candidates includes valuable contributors like Victor OladipoEric GordonSterling BrownDavid Nwaba, and now D.J. Augustin as well.

The Rockets have gone from a conference finalist to one of the league’s worst in just three short years. They parted ways with the head coach who led them to the conference finals in hopes of new beginnings. Houston is now forced into desperation mode because of past trades that have not worked out.

The roster they have now is not one that can make a playoff run, so they are trying to make up for lost time by securing future draft picks. The Rockets will now try to rebuild through the draft and find players that mesh with their young talent, like Christian Wood and Kevin Porter Jr..
