The Atlanta Hawks stayed red-hot, winning their 8th straight game in Saturday’s afternoon defeat of the Los Angeles Lakers. Not only did the Lakers lose the contest, but it came with an even larger price tag, as Lebron James left the game due to injury. His timetable for return is uncertain as he’s out indefinitely with a high ankle sprain, which adds another key player to the NBA’s star-studded injury list (LeBron, Steph, KD, AD, Embiid, and more).

Later in the day, there was a pair of blow out victories with the 76ers beating the Kings behind an impressive night from Tobias Harris, who picked up the slack with a missing Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons, and the Clippers dismantling the improving Hornets.

Jordan Poole had 26 points for the Warriors, which is tied for his career-high, but fell short to the Grizzlies without Stephen Curry on the floor, who did not play due to a bruised tailbone. There was another career night in Milwaukee, where Lonnie Walker IV dropped 31 points, but the Spurs still fell to the Bucks, who have now won their season-high 6 straight games. Charlotte was dominated in the Staples Center once again this week, this time by the crosstown Clippers.

NBA TOP PERFORMERS

JORDAN POOLE CAN BE A KEY PLAYER FOR THE WARRIORS LONG-TERM

Despite the Warriors’ loss Saturday night in a close battle with the Grizzlies, there was something good the team could take away, and that was the performance of Jordan Poole. Poole had 25 points in Friday’s outing against the Grizzlies and came back with 26 on Saturday night.

Poole has assumed the starting role since the absence of star guard Stephen Curry, who is out with a bruised tailbone temporarily. However, Poole continues to show that his valuable contributions don’t have to be a short-term thing. Even before Curry went down, Poole’s has emerged into a standout player for the team and has played the most minutes per game of any other Warriors player in the two-game span.

Poole’s outburst wasn’t necessarily expected, as he actually started 11 games for the Warriors’ G-League team this season. He took that opportunity to showcase his skills and proved to be one of the best players in the G-League, where he was averaging 22.4 PPG this season. The 2019 1st Rd pick out of Michigan is proving that he belongs in the league, and can actually play a huge role for this team moving forward, even with players like Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson healthy.
