With no deal in sight going into training camp, Ezekiel Elliot headed out to cobo. As time went on it became more and more apparent that the Cowboys needed to reach a new deal with Elliot or this would be the end of the road, and so they did. On Tuesday morning, the Dallas Cowboys and Ezekiel Elliot agreed on a 6 year, 90 million dollar contract extension, with $50 million guaranteed. He is now the highest paid running back in the NFL.

  • Drafted 4th overall in 2016
  • 1st team All-Pro in his rookie season
  • 2x Pro Bowl (2016 & 2018)
  • Leads NFL in Rushing Yards since 2016
  • Led NFL in Attempts, Yards, and Yards per game in 2016 & 2018
  • 1st running back to sign a contract of more than $60M
  • 5th running back in history to lead the NFL in YPG in 3 consecutive seasons
  • 2nd team All-American at Ohio State (2015)

As of today, Zeke is inked in to wear the Dallas star on his helmet for the next eight years. He is guaranteed $50 million of the $107 million he is set to make. In his first three seasons, he has made the Pro Bowl twice, led the league in rushing and yards twice, and led the league in rushing yards per game all three seasons. Elliot is arguably the best running back in the game, and the Cowboys paid him as such. Happy to see the holdout dissolve, and even happier to have $50 million guaranteed, Ezekiel Elliot’s future in Dallas is shining brighter than it ever has. As long as he can stay healthy, there will be more records broken and more amazing football to see from one of the faces of the Dallas Cowboys in the years ahead.

Since 2016, the Cowboys offense has leaned upon an offensive line that is seemingly always at the top of the league and Elliott’s raw ability to create plays behind them. As Jerry Jones stated himself Wednesday morning in an interview on CNBC, “he is an incremental part to our success.” Now, the future of the Dallas Cowboys lies on the shoulders of Ezekiel Elliot, and the massive contract extension made that very clear. With their star running back ready to go, an improved receiving core, a talented young defense, and Dak Prescott primed to take a step forward, Jerry Jones and Jason Garrett have a team that will be competitive for many years to come.
