Over the past 10 years, the Jacksonville Jaguars have been supplied with an abundance of high first round picks but the result of those might go down as the worst of any decade of 1st round picks ever. The team just traded former first round Cornerback C.J. Henderson, who was expected to provide an immediate impact for the Jaguars when drafted, and a 2022 5th round pick to the Carolina Panthers for Tight End Dan Arnold and a 2022 3rd round pick.

Aside from Defensive Tackle Taven Bryan (2018), Defensive End Josh Allen (2019), Quarterback Trevor Lawrence, and Running Back/Wide Receiver Travis Etienne (2021), no other Jacksonville first round picks from the last 10 years are still on the team, and only Josh Allen has proven to be an above-average contributor for the team so far. The list of first round picks no longer on the team or top prospects that became busts are baffling considering the amount of top-10 picks Jacksonville has been supplied with.

JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS HAVE HAD THE WORST DECADE OF 1ST ROUND PICKS EVER

The Jaguars are known for their consistent top-10 draft pick status each year largely because they continuously fail at developing many of their top-10 draft picks over the last decade. The latest is CB C.J. Henderson who was just traded to the Carolina Panthers. Henderson has a fresh start and a chance to play for one of the best teams in the NFL so far (3-0). The Jaguars reap their losses and hope the past does not indicate the future with the new Urban Meyer-led regime.

Look for Henderson to improve in his time with Carolina, now that he left the Jaguars and could find a starting role opposite of fellow Cornerback Donte Jackson. Meanwhile, the Jaguars can roll with free agent signing Shaquill Griffin and rookie Tyson Campbell with newly-signed Nevin Lawson taking slot reps. It’s time to look ahead for Jacksonville and understand that they will not be competitive in 2021, but could be in the future depending on how Trevor Lawrence develops.
