The NBA Summer League began in 2002 with the Orlando Pro Summer League and has since provided fans with exciting previews of the players their favorite teams selected in that year’s NBA Draft. From LeBron James to Steph Curry, many future Hall of Fame players first made their way through the Summer League, and with the 2021 Summer League starting up today, it’s the perfect time to look back at some of the event’s greatest highlights.

  • Zion Williams recorded 10 PTS in the 1st Qtr of his Summer League debut in 2019
  • An 18-year-old LeBron James debuted in the Summer League as the “Chosen One” in 2003
  • D’Angelo Russell drained the buzzer-beating GW-FG for the Lakers summer league win over Philly on July 9, 2016

LOOKING AT SOME OF THE BEST SUMMER LEAGUE HIGHLIGHTS IN NBA HISTORY

The NBA Summer League has always been an exciting event full of young players looking to start their careers on the right foot. Many players involved are fighting for final spots on rosters, making the games very competitive. Quality performances in the Summer do not always translate into the NBA, as of course, the NBA provides a far higher level of skill and competition. It still stands as a good indicator of potential and these highlights showcase the peak of those battles.
