Originally drafted first overall by the Lakers in the 1979 NBA draft, Magic Johnson became an All-Star his rookie season, and would do so 11 more times before his career was finished. Magic won five NBA Championships with the Lakers and led the league in AST four times. Following the 1991 NBA season, Magic was forced to retire due to contracting HIV, only to fight the virus and come back to play 32 games for the Lakers in the 1995-96 season, where he averaged 14.6 PTS and 6.9 AST.

MAGIC JOHNSON WAS THE MOST FLASHY BASKETBALL PLAYER TO EVER GRACE THE COURT

Earvin Johnson was the greatest passer of his generation, if not all-time, and brought the art of basketball to life. Playing in Los Angeles, Johnson sold out arenas and influenced Hollywood’s biggest stars to come courtside to watch the game. Nicknamed “Magic”, he played a huge part in growing the sport because of his flashy passes, positive attitude, and competitive spirit.

While the Lakers franchise was already filled with years of Championships and a winning culture, it is Magic who grew the game and who fans came to see play because of his insane skill level and ability to control the game. Thanks to Magic’s intelligence to control the tempo of the game and his uncanny ability to dish it to teammates in ways fans did not think was possible, Magic was able to go down as the flashiest basketball player to ever grace the court.
