The conclusion of Jackie Robinson weekend featured one of the best comebacks of the season as the Yankees hit game-winners against the Mets not once, but twice on Sunday. Toronto also got in on the walk-off action as Randal Grichuk again scored the go-ahead run while Luis Robert hit his own game-winner. Wainwright’s birthday complete game and Dane Dunning’s dominant no-hit outing are also featured in this edition of the must-see highlights.

The Yankees-Mets delivered not only one Game of the Day candidate, but two popcorn worthy events. In the first game of Sunday’s double-header, the Yankees were down to their final out while trailing by FIVE runs. But as they say, the “Mets are gonna Mets.” After error after wild pitch after error after HBP, etc., Aaron Hicks launched a game-tying shot and Gio Urshela inevitably walked it off in the very next inning.

Then in the game immediately after, Deivi Garcia made his MLB debut in extremely impressive fashion as he became the youngest pitcher in Yankees franchise history to make his debut with 6+ IP and 1 run or fewer allowed. Another extra innings game would follow as El Gary would be responsible for the Grand Finale.

The American League Rookie of the Year race is likely coming down to Luis Robert and Kyle Lewis in 2020 and they both showed off their clutch factor on Sunday. Robert deserves the larger portion of the credit for blasting a 3-run walk-off bomb, but Lewis’ dinger broke a 0-0 tie in the 7th inning, showing he’s also not scared of high-pressure plate appearances. Plus he scored the game-winning run in extras, crossing the plate 2x more than any other player in that game.

The Toronto Blue Jays weren’t given permission to play games in Canada this year and moved shop to their triple-A home in Buffalo. Hosting its first MLB game since the 19th century, the city of Buffalo witnessed a walk-off on Day 1 and kept the excitement going on Sunday with Randal Grichuk scoring the game-winning run on multiple days this weekend

Not many pitchers go the distance these days, especially ones over the age of 30 as pitch counts and bullpen usage are monitored as much as ever in this new era of America’s pastime. Yet, Cardinals Manager Mike Shildt gifted Wainwright a chance at starting and finishing a game on his 39th birthday despite a 121 pitch count. Happy bday to one of the greatest Cardinals pitchers of all-time

On Sunday Night Baseball, the Braves lit up Jake Arrieta and David Hale for TEN runs in the 2nd inning alone, taking a 10-0 lead. The Phillies slowly chipped away, getting within one run after McCutchen’s shot in the 8th inning. However, Dansby Swanson slammed shut Philly’s comeback attempt with his solo shot in the 9th and this slick double play in the final frame.

The Los Angeles Dodgers & Chicago Cubs both made history on August 30, 2020. The Dodgers set the National League record for most HRs hit in a calendar month while the Cubs emerged as the first team to ever have all three OFs put up multi-HR games.

The Chicago White Sox have an extremely bright future in the 2020s. Not only is their stacked, young lineup under team control for years, but they also have a few high-end pitching prospects that are poised to make noise in the near future. Dane Dunning showed his lofty potential with these five no-hit innings against the 2015 champs.

The best two defensive plays of the day go to Thairo Estrada and Jacob Nottingham who each made a great play on Sunday.

Full game highlights of today’s close games will be posted here once they conclude.
