The 2021 NBA Finals have officially tipped off and Game 1 went to the home team, the Phoenix Suns. Giannis Antetokounmpo started despite being doubtful for most of the day, but it wasn’t enough to top the red-hot Suns. Chris Paul showed out with 32 points to lead all scorers, Devin Booker added 27, and Deandre Ayton had a 22 and 19 double-double. Phoenix looked great overall in the first of many games, and will look to keep it going in Game 2 at home.

NOBODY IS BETTER AT READING DEFENSIVE COVERAGES THAN THE POINT GOD CP3

COLORS KEY | FULL SUNS OUTLOOK

Chris Paul was lighting it up in Game 1, and he was able to do so because of his ability to read defensive coverages to perfection. When Milwaukee would switch on a screen, CP3 would get an isolation with one of their big men (mainly Brook Lopez and Bobby Portis) and would inevitably tear them apart for an easy bucket.

If they dropped back on the pick, Paul would use the opportunity to knock down his signature mid-range jumper or find Ayton for an alley-oop or an easy interior bucket. His ability to understand the defensive coverages was the difference maker in Game 1 and could lead a young Suns team through their first NBA Finals appearance (besides Jae Crowder).
