Many pitchers can claim career records and all-time individual performances, but at the end of the day, the most important thing is the win. In all of MLB history, no pitcher could match the great Cy Young in that category. Just the numbers make this apparent. 23 pitchers have surpassed 300 victories, two have earned over 400, but only one has 500. Cy Young accomplished that fantastic feat on this day in 1910.

CY YOUNG BECAME THE 1ST (& ONLY) PITCHER WITH 500 CAREER WINS

Cy Young was the first pitcher ever to gather 300 career wins. It took nine more years for him to create another monumental milestone during a 7-0 blowout with the Cleveland Naps. His 500th victory was the first and only in MLB history, with Walter Johnson being the only other SP to surpass the 400 mark. From being honored in the Hall of Fame to having an annual award named after himself, Cy Young will always be a symbol of both excellence and endurance in baseball and professional sports.
