With most of the Royals’ season being marked by disappointment, Salvador Perez‘s incredible individual achievements in 2021 have been one of only very few positives to grace Kansas City in recent months. The Kansas City Royals have been out of playoff contention for quite some time but that has not stopped the team’s leader from putting up incredible numbers, leading the league in both home runs (48) and RBI (121), something only one Catcher in the history of the game has accomplished.

  • Only primary Catcher to lead MLB in HR (48) & RBI (121) during the same season other than Johnny Bench in 1970/1972
  • 1st player to record 20+ more HR (48) than BB (28) during a season in MLB history
  • T-most HR in a single season in Kansas City Royal history (shares record with Jorge Soler)

Salvador Perez’s 2021 season boasts an incredible number of achievements. In fact, upon closer inspection, his performances become even more impressive. Not only did Salvy lead the league in home runs and RBI, he did so as a Catcher, having to manage pitching staffs and the game behind the plate on a daily basis.

Perez became only the second primary catcher to accomplish this, joining the legendary Johnny Bench in history. Furthermore, he tied the Royals franchise record for most home runs in a season, sharing this title with only his good friend Jorge Soler. Perez has enjoyed a number of successful seasons in Kansas City, most notably winning the World Series and World Series MVP in 2015. However, Salvador Perez’s 2021 campaign will undoubtedly live in history forever thanks to his individual greatness.
