Life without franchise QB Russell Wilson is proving to be very difficult for HC Pete Carroll and the Seattle Seahawks, who now sit at 2-5 after a 13-10 home loss to the New Orleans Saints in Week 7 on MNF. Backup quarterback Geno Smith replaced Wilson for the third straight week, and his late-game mistakes once again doomed the Seahawks, losers of three straight. Pete Carroll now faces his greatest challenge of his tenure as Seahawks coach, and a poor campaign could leave him without a job at season’s end.

SEATTLE SEAHAWKS HC PETE CARROLL COULD BE ON THE HOT SEAT THIS OFFSEASON

COLORS KEY | FULL SEAHAWKS OUTLOOK

The 2021 offseason was not kind to the Seattle Seahawks, which saw tension build between franchise QB Russell Wilson and the team. He did not demand a trade, but he did ask for more say in personnel and playcalling choices. HC Pete Carroll and the Seahawks have not been able to find the level of success they had when they made back-to-back Super Bowls in 2013 and 2014. The failure to hand the ball off to Marshawn Lynch at the 1-yard line has seemingly haunted this franchise ever since.

Fast forward to 2021, and Carroll watched Saints RB Alvin Kamara, one of the best dual-threat RBs ever, gash his defense all game long. The Seahawks have numerous injuries on the offensive side of the ball, including RB Chris Carson, but none bigger than his star QB. Seattle has not had a losing season since Wilson was drafted in 2012, but how Carroll navigates through this campaign could determine his fate beyond 2021 as any Owner would choose to keep a franchise QB over any Head Coach if it comes to that.
