Here is the best from February 2, 2020:

For 50 long years, the Kansas City Chiefs ended their seasons without a Lombardi Trophy. That all ended in 2020 with Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes at the helm. Congratulations to the Kansas City Chiefs on their 2nd Super Bowl in franchise history!

Patrick Mahomes overcame the worst game of his healthy career through the first 3 quarters before exploding in the 4th quarter to lift KC to their 1st Super Bowl win in 50 years. After two interceptions and two fumbles (0 lost), Mahomes lit up the 49ers defense for 141 yards & 2 TDs on the final 2 drives with his team needing those to win the football game. Mahomes is only 24 years old, but the Super Bowl MVP is doing things nobody’s ever done before.

After Mahomes threw his 2nd interception of the day, with the Chiefs down 20-10 and less than 10:00 left in the game, KC had less than a 5% chance to win the game before Mahomes’ clutch 3rd & 15 conversion to Tyreek Hill. And after this Damien Williams dagger, the Chiefs win percentage went to 100% and Kansas City knew the drought was over.

Williams also had these key highlight plays that helped KC earlier in the game.

What will be remembered from this game is Mahomes’ outstanding final two drives that won KC the game. However, before those took place, it was shaping up to be the worst game of the Super Bowl MVP’s career, largely thanks to these two interceptions. For KC fans though, it was the rough times that make the good times that much better.

Even after Mahomes executed two perfect comeback drives late in the 4th quarter, the 49ers had a chance to take the lead. No better chance than on this throw where Emmanuel Sanders created separation and was wide open for the TD, but Jimmy G juuuust overthrew him. As cliche as it is, this was a game of inches (a few feet in this case).

Patrick Mahomes will get most of the headlines as the young Super Bowl MVP, who is also officially the new face of the league, but it was KC’s defense that also stepped up when it mattered with clutch defensive stops. After allowing 20 points through the first 3 quarters, KC pitched a shutout in the 4th quarter when it mattered most.

The biggest story that came from this game was Andy Reid winning his first Championship ring and eliminating the “choker” perception surrounding him. So who’s now the best offensive playcaller who can’t get it done when it matters most? Until Kyle Shanahan gets that ring, look no further than Andy Reid’s Super Bowl 2020 Head Coach opponent.
