Sunday’s NBA slate saw tons of posterizing dunks, highlighted by Miles Bridges’ ridiculous slam, while other players who also dropped the hammer included Paul George, Dorian Finney-Smith, Lonnie Walker, and Karl-Anthony Towns. Also, DeMar DeRozan’s perfected craft from mid-range led to the game-winning bucket vs. Dallas in the game of the day, J.D. Martinez is off to a torrid start for the Red Sox, and PSO provides an advanced scouting report on playmaking LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah.

Here is the best of the day from April 11, 2021:

NBA Sunday was full of thunderous dunks, especially from Miles Bridges

Sunday, April 11th, will be remembered as the day of the dunk, as monster jams were thrown down across the league, starting in Charlotte, where Hornets F Miles Bridges hammered home the dunk of the year vs. the Hawks. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough though, as Charlotte fell just short, losing 105-101.

Bridges wasn’t the only one taking souls though as Paul George gave Isaiah Stewart a rookie initiation in the Clippers’ win over Detroit. The Spurs-Mavericks game saw a pair of posterizing dunks, as Dallas’ Dorian Finney-Smith yammed it on Jakob Poeltl, while San Antonio’s Lonnie Walker returned the favor over Nicolo Melli. Finally, Karl-Anthony Towns slammed home two ferocious dunks vs. Chicago in a game dedicated to his mother.

IN AN ERA THAT REJECTS MID-RANGERS, DEROZAN HAS PERFECTED IT

DeMar DeRozan had 33 points for San Antonio in their win over Dallas on Sunday night. The final two of these 33 came on a last-second mid-range jumper to put his team up two and win the game. He was able to get to a spot on the floor that he feels comfortable and knock down the shot.

The spot on the floor where DeRozan shines is unlike most of the league. He is a mid-range expert and makes a living off these shots. As the years go on, fewer and fewer mid-range shots are being taken across the league, as players have been advised to expand their game beyond the three-point line. In fact, most players nowadays need a successful three-point jumper to even play in today’s NBA.

Although the league is moving away from the mid-range shot, DeRozan still makes a living off it. He is currently on a 5y/$139M contract that he earned by shooting the mid-ranger at a high clip. Having a player like him on the team brings a different look to the offense, and makes it more diverse with more ways to score effectively, which is why DeRozan continues to thrive, even in today’s NBA.
