As the NFL continued rounds two and three of the draft, Jayson Tatum played arguably the greatest game in Celtics history in Boston’s massive comeback win over the Spurs. Tatum dropped 60-points, as his scoring outburst set or tied several records. Also, Tyrese Haliburton has wound up being the steal of the 2020 NBA draft, the Nationals’ Kyle Schwarber hit a monster walk-off homer vs. Miami, and the 2021 QB draft class has the potential to go down as the greatest ever.

Here is the best of the day from April 30, 2021:

Jayson Tatum’s record-breaking night led Boston’s historic 32-point comeback

Jayson Tatum dropped 60 points, including 31 in the fourth quarter and overtime, leading the Celtics to a 143-140 win over the Spurs after trailing by as many as 32 points. Not only did Tatum’s historic scoring output tie Larry Bird for the most points scored in a game in Celtics history, but he also became the first Celtic ever to record multiple 50+ point games in a season. At just 23 years and 58 days old, Tatum is also the second youngest player to ever drop 60+ points in a game.

The win was also historic for Boston as a whole, as their 32-point comeback was the third largest in NBA history. The Celtics also became just the second team to force overtime after trailing by 29+ points at halftime in league history. With the win, Boston improved to a still disappointing 34-30 record, good for sixth in the East and a half-game ahead of Miami.

TYRESE HALIBURTON WAS THE STEAL OF THE 2020 NBA DRAFT

Tyrese Haliburton was drafted 12th overall by the Sacramento Kings and is proving to be the best value pick of the draft. He is currently the third most likely candidate to win this season’s rookie of the year award, behind Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball, who were both top-three picks. Haliburton has shown throughout the season that he should’ve been picked earlier, especially recently with De’Aaron Fox out of the lineup.

Since Fox has been out due to injury, Haliburton has been averaging 18.5 points per game and nine assists, nearly a double-double. In this four-game span, he’s averaged more points and assists than both Edwards and Ball have this season. This shows that when Halliburton has more opportunities to be productive, he makes the most of it and excels with the ball in his hands.

Haliburton’s double-double in Sacramento’s victory over the LA Lakers proved once again why he deserved to go earlier in the draft. At only 21 years of age, Haliburton is giving Sacramento fans something to look forward to as part of a young nucleus in northern California. He might’ve fallen to the 12th overall pick, but Tyrese is making it clear that Sacramento found the steal of the draft in 2020.
