The ‘Best of the Day’ is a daily PSO original series showcasing the most significant stories, highlights, and facts going on in the land of the NFL, NBA, & MLB every day. Get a recap on EVERYTHING that happened on 6/29 here

Without Trae Young, the Hawks were still able to tie up their series with the Bucks before heading back to Milwaukee. The biggest uncertainty of the series will be whether Trae or Giannis will return before the Finals, and who will step up in their absence. Clint Capela hit one of the most unbelievable shots of the playoffs from behind the backboard. June 29 marks the 17th anniversary of when Tracy McGrady was traded from Orlando to Houston, so PSO takes a look at the top 5 players in Magic history.

Here is the best of the day from June 29, 2021:

Giannis’ injury in Game 4 sparked Atlanta’s run to even up series without Trae Young

With Trae Young out for Game 4, it looked unlikely that the Hawks would be able to tie up the series, however everyone on the team stepped up especially Lou Williams who had big shoes to fill, replacing Trae in the starting lineup, but he ended up scoring 21 points on 7-9 shooting including 2-3 on 3PT.

Bogdan Bogdanovic also stepped up with 20 points on 6-14 3PT shooting. The Bucks’ leading scorer was Jrue Holiday with 19, but Giannis went down with an injury in the third quarter which led to a 25-10 Hawks run and added to the long list of star injuries this season.

THE 2021 NBA CHAMPION DESERVES A BIGGER ASTERISK THAN 2020 AT THIS POINT

Many have questioned whether or not the 2020 NBA Champions deserved much praise given the abnormal circumstances in a bubble, and how both Finalists (Lakers and Heat) were bounced in the first round this year. However, it appears that the 2021 Champs should be discussed in a similar manner. All-Stars and key players have been suffering from injuries left and right, and it seems like teams are hardly playing at full strength anymore after an abnormally shortened offseason that’s had lasting effects.

Players like James Harden, Kyrie Irving, Anthony Davis, Kawhi Leonard, Trae Young, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and many more have all picked up injuries this postseason, likely costing their squads important games this postseason. Games have been coming thick and fast to make up for lost time due to COVID, and it has clearly taken a toll on the players. It’s an unfortunate reality, but it’s fair to ask how deserving the eventual 2021 Champions will be compared to normal years where the best have to beat the best to be considered the best.
