NFL free agency continued, as the top available receiver in Kenny Golladay is now off the table after signing with the Giants. Golladay’s addition to a receiving corps in need of a No. 1 option can potentially help QB Daniel Jones reach his ceiling in the Big Apple. Also, Jordan Poole could be a key piece for Golden State moving forward after another big performance vs. Memphis, Giannis racked up a career-high 15 assists, Pirates great Roberto Clemente was inducted into the baseball HOF on this day in 1973 soon after his tragic death, and some major NBA superstars are dealing with injuries.

Here is the best of the day from March 20, 2021:

New York Giants land the No.1 WR in free agency Kenny Golladay for $70M

Former Detroit Lions WR Kenny Golladay and the New York Giants agreed to a 4y/$70M contract on Saturday in a deal that can be worth up to $76M and includes $40M guaranteed. Golladay was widely regarded as the top free agent WR on the market this offseason.

Drafted in the third round (96th overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft by Detroit, Golladay amassed 3,068 receiving yards on 183 receptions and 21 touchdowns in his first four years in the league. In 2019, he was named to his first Pro Bowl after leading the NFL in touchdown catches with a career-best 11 touchdowns while also setting career marks in yards (1,190) and average yards per catch (18.3). Golladay missed all but five games last season dealing with a hip injury, registering 20 catches for 338 yards and two touchdowns.

New York will hope that Golladay’s addition will speed up the progression of third year QB Daniel Jones, who has flashed immense potential but has also struggled with consistency thus far. The Giants will look to their neighbors in Buffalo as a guide, as the addition of Stefon Diggs last offseason unlocked Josh Allen‘s massive potential in his third year, turning him into an MVP candidate. The pressure is now squarely on Jones to prove that he can be the franchise QB the Giants envisioned when they drafted him No. 6 overall in 2019.

JORDAN POOLE CAN BE A KEY PLAYER FOR THE WARRIORS LONG-TERM

Despite the Warriors’ loss Saturday night in a close battle with the Grizzlies, there was something good the team could take away, and that was the performance of Jordan Poole. Poole had 25 points in Friday’s outing against the Grizzlies and came back with 26 on Saturday night.

Poole has assumed the starting role since the absence of star guard Stephen Curry, who is out with a bruised tailbone temporarily. However, Poole continues to show that his valuable contributions don’t have to be a short-term thing. Even before Curry went down, Poole’s has emerged into a standout player for the team and has played the most minutes per game of any other Warriors player in the two-game span.

Poole’s outburst wasn’t necessarily expected, as he actually started 11 games for the Warriors’ G-League team this season. He took that opportunity to showcase his skills and proved to be one of the best players in the G-League, where he was averaging 22.4 PPG this season. The 2019 1st Rd pick out of Michigan is proving that he belongs in the league, and can actually play a huge role for this team moving forward, even with players like Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson healthy.
