While the Giants Keep Winning, the Dodgers are Still the MLB’s Best Team
Despite the Giants putting up historic numbers and being in position to win the NL, the Dodgers should still be considered the MLB's best team

The 2021 season has been shaped by NL West dominance, as both the San Francisco Giants and the Los Angeles Dodgers cruised past 100 wins. As the playoffs edge closer and the rivalry intensifies, neither team appears to be slowing down with the Giants coming out on top so far and leading the MLB in wins. However, while the Giants may own the major’s best regular season record, the Dodgers maintain the most talented roster in the league and have championship experience to go with it.

When the Dodgers swung a trade for Max Scherzer and Trea Turner at the trade deadline, it further solidified the fact that there is no roster with more talent than the Dodgers. Adding a 3x Cy Young award winner and the current MLB Batting Leader created a wider gap in talent between the two teams in both the rotation and lineup. It’s fair to give San Francisco the advantage when it comes to the bullpen but with more days off and starters becoming relievers, the depth of the ‘pen becomes less important in October.
The Giants were the surprise team of 2021 while the Dodgers are the reigning champions. This Giants core has won multiple World Series together and will look to win another but it won’t be because they’re the better or more talented team. It’ll be in large part due to San Fran having home-field advantage while the Dodgers entire season’s on the line in one game. Los Angeles hopes that the separation they have created from a talent perspective will pay dividends in the playoffs, but for now they are left chasing the Giants.
