Despite having home field advantage for the NLCS, the Braves come in as heavy underdogs. That comes as a result of playing a 106-win team that was the best Wild Card team of all time in the Dodgers. Nevertheless, Atlanta started off the series right on Saturday night, riding Austin Riley‘s big night to a Game 1 win. Riley’s signature performance comes after a very productive age-24 season that has him looking like the next great Third Baseman in Braves history.

  • Austin Riley is the youngest player (24y, 197d) player with a walk-off hit in Braves postseason history
  • Riley is the 1st player with multiple game-tying/go-ahead hits including a walk-off during 1 GP in Braves postseason history
  • Will Smith now has most HR (3) during 1 postseason & t-most career HR (5) by a Catcher in Dodgers history

Odds vs. LA: ATL -105 (Spread +1.5)

AUSTIN RILEY IS BUILDING HIS CASE AS THE NEXT GREAT BRAVES 3RD BASEMAN

COLORS KEY | FULL BRAVES OUTLOOK

Riley has Braves fans reminiscing about star third basemen of Braves’ past, invoking memories of Chipper Jones and Eddie Mathews, which is extremely high praise considering their HOF stature. Riley broke out this year, hitting .303 with 33 HR and 107 RBI in 2021. He’s had his coming out party in the playoffs, becoming the youngest Brave to have a walk-off Hit in the postseason.

Riley homered earlier in the game as well, and his two big hits neutralized a night that was historic for Dodgers’ catcher Will Smith. Smith hit his fifth career postseason home run, most all time for a Dodgers catcher but it didn’t hold much weight after Riley’s final AB. LA is full of talented players but with Max Muncy out, no Dodgers hitter can match Riley’s pure power.
