MARCUS SEMIEN AND BO BICHETTE HAVE FORMED AN ALL-TIME 2B-SS HOME RUN DUO
Elite middle-infielder duos are hard to come by. Carlos Correa and Jose Altuve have been among the best in the MLB the last few years, however, there may be a new challenger to MLB’s best double-play combination: Marcus Semien and Bo Bichette. Both have elite offensive numbers and solid all-around defense that should give the Blue Jays a solid middle infield for years to come (if they can re-sign Semien).
Prior to this year, Semien had an eccentric glove that would often lead to him consistently having more than 20+ errors at shortstop. The Blue Jays decided to sign him to a one-year deal in the hopes that a position switch to second base would mask Semien’s defensive woes. This year, Semien has turned it around for the Blue Jays in an All-Star season that has culminated into a 40-HR season that will garner AL MVP votes.
Bichette has always been a consistent contributor for the Blue Jays ever since his debut in 2019. This year, Bichette has tapped into his potential and produced a terrific offensive season as he continues to take steps toward his ultimate potential as a future MVP candidate. The Blue Jays must be proud that Bichette is the player they thought he was going to be when they drafted him in the 2nd round of the 2016 MLB draft.
Altogether, the Blue Jays have one of the best young offensive cores in baseball and they should continue to wreak havoc against opposing pitchers. It was somewhat expected to see Vladimir Guerrero Jr. emerge as an MVP candidate but for Canada to witness the most HR by a 2B/SS duo combo during a season EVER is the cherry on top of a sensational offensive season in the 6ix.
