The Denver Nuggets and Michael Porter Jr. have agreed to a max five-year contract extension worth up to $207M. MPJ is coming off an impressive season, having averaged 19 PPG and 7.3 REB on 54% FG and a sensational 44.5% on 3PA’s. The former lottery pick has cemented himself as an important piece for an ambitious Nuggets roster led by reigning MVP Nikola Jokic.

When the Denver Nuggets took Michael Porter Jr. with the 14th pick in the 2018 Draft, it was widely considered a big risk given Porter Jr.’s injury history. However, after sitting out his rookie season to address those issues, he proved the risk was worth the reward. MPJ is part of a great young Denver Nuggets core, who, despite suffering many injuries and setbacks, reached the Western Conference Semifinals and appear to have a bright future ahead of them

Porter Jr. averaged 31 minutes a game during a breakout “Sophomore” campaign and never shied away from big moments. MPJ gives the impression of a player with all the talent in the world and a very bright future ahead of him, like the Nuggets as a whole. His max extension not only reflects his achievements so far but should also give him the confidence to continue to develop in the future and reach his All-Star ceiling with the potential of one day entering the MVP conversation.
