It’s hard for the MLB to get noticed from a national stage standpoint during NFL Sunday‘s, especially with the NBA Playoffs still going strong. However, the league had a full slate of games and some subsequent must-see highlights that featured many hitters and pitchers putting teams on their back for a big win to cap off the last week before the actual final week of the regular season

Enjoy the best highlights from Sunday’s MLB action all in one place:

It’s been 14 years since MLB fans witnessed the San Diego Padres in the MLB postseason. That third longest active playoff drought is over as the Friar Faithful has one of the best records in the league and is the second NL team to clinch a playoff spot behind the division rival Dodgers. They needed extra innings to do it, but they got it done.

The Houston Astros have been struggling miserably as of late, but George Springer assured the team would come out of Sunday with a win to move their September record to 8-12 with enough of a cushion above the Mariners to essentially secure the AL West #2 spot for what will be a fifth playoff appearance in the last six years.

Daniel Vogelbach is the only hitter this season to be traded/waived multiple times and play on three teams during this shortened 60-game season. That makes it seem like Vogelbach isn’t valued much among MLB front offices, but the 270lb slugger showed Sunday why he was able to blast 30 bombs last year, and how he can still be a valuable contributor as he was the sole power provider of Milwaukee’s offense against KC.

The Yankees were riding a 10-game win streak and complete domination over their arch-rival in Boston through their last 18 meetings (17-1) as they matched up one final time in 2020. However, the 2018 champs showed some signs of life as second-year vet Michael Chavis set the tone early on 9/20 that those streaks wouldn’t get extended any longer.

Jack Flaherty had one of the best second halves to a season in recent memory last year and is starting to catch his groove in 2020 with a sensational showing against the Pirates.

This season has been another one to forget for Baltimore fans after an early tease of potential contention. However, a bright spot was John Means’ record-tying performance on Sunday with his seven consecutive Ks.

Among all the great pitching performances on Sunday, it was Carlos Carrasco who earned Pitcher of the Day honors for his seven shutout innings of 11 Ks while allowing only a single hit to the Tigers a day after their Manager retired

Full game highlights of today’s close games will be posted here once they conclude.
