Boston gets a massive Game 3 victory, a former Cy Young candidate goes down with an arm injury, and the Yankees extended their win streak to 10 games.

Here is the best from September 19, 2020:

Boston’s held a lead for more minutes in this series than the Heat but they haven’t been able to close games. The Celtics got off to their signature lead but this time decided to hold on to the lead in a pivotal Game 3 victory with Gordon Hayward making his return.

The 2x Cy Young Winning starter, Justin Verlander announced he will miss the rest of the season with a crushing Tommy John injury. Unlike most injury news that gets reported by a media outlet or member, Verlander himself let his fans know the tough news after not having pitched since his 2020 season debut on July 24th.

The New York Yankees have continued their dominance over the AL East winning all 10 games against recent division foes. Although they haven’t beaten the best teams (Orioles, Red sox, and the slumping Jays), the Yankees have done it in dominant fashion to quiet all the critics and have some momentum to carry over into October.

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Mitch Keller contained the St. Louis Cardinals to no hits through six strong innings. The starter ended up getting pulled from the game and the bullpen wasted no time in blowing the lead as STL overcame the 4-0 deficit by the end of the inning.

Trevor Bauer typically makes an appearance in the Best in Sport thanks to the Cy Young candidate’s commanding presence as a pitcher as he is having a hell of a season and showed voters on Saturday he’s also a Gold Glove candidate.

Tarik Cohen isn’t seen as an every down back but is a touchdown threat anytime he’s in open space. Cohen’s abilities to run the rock, catch out of the back field, return punts, and be a distracting decoy in Chicago’s offense makes him the perfect complimentary piece in today’s NFL.

Miguel Sano hit a monster long ball over the ivy-filled Wrigley Field to guide the Twins to clinching a playoff spot for the second consecutive season.

Ron Gardenhire abruptly retired mid-season for the Tigers and completes his career with a 1200-1280 (48.4%) record. Gardenhire had a 6-21 record in the playoffs and is remembered as the only manager in MLB History to go to the playoffs six times with one team and not make the World Series (with Minnesota 2002-14).
