After being picked third overall in the 2018 NFL Draft, Sam Darnold looked set to take the league by storm and help a struggling New York Jets franchise return to their winning ways. However, three years later, following a series of disappointments and a serious lack of development, the Jets once again sought change, drafting top prospect Zach Wilson second overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. This saw an underwhelming Sam Darnold find a new home and opportunity with the Carolina Panthers

Just three games into the 2021 season, it appears Sam Darnold is making the most of his new situation. Darnold’s solid performances and the Panthers’ subsequent 3-0 record indicate that maybe all Sam Darnold ever needed to thrive was the right environment and supporting cast while New York is on the cusp of an 0-3 start without Darnold.

  • A QB & TE both recorded a RUSH TD in the same game for the 1st time in Carolina Panthers history
  • Joins Mahomes as the only QBs with 250+ PASS YDS & a Win during each of their 1st 3 GP with a new team in Super Bowl era
  • Carolina Panthers are 8-0 when allowing 21 PTS or fewer and 0-11 when allowing 22+ PTS since 2020
  • Panthers have recorded the t-most SK (14) through the 1st 3 games of a season in franchise history
  • Carolina has allowed the fewest YDS (573) through a 3-0 start to the season since 1992

SAM DARNOLD JUST NEEDED SOME GOOD WEAPONS & COACHING TO REACH HIS POTENTIAL

COLORS KEY | FULL PANTHERS OUTLOOK

The beginning of the 2021 NFL season has shown the world a side of Sam Darnold that had largely been missing in New York. As the brand new Panthers QB continues to impress in his fresh blue threads, Jets fans have to think “what if” considering they put their new rookie QB in a somewhat similar situation. While Zach Wilson won’t have to deal with Adam Gase’s playbook or the unquestionable worst weapons in the league, it’s far from an ideal situation to succeed. However, Darnold has found that in Charlotte, NC

The season has only just begun and matchups have somewhat favored the Panthers thus far yet Darnold seems to have freed himself from past limitations. Surrounded by a better supporting cast and coaching staff, the USC product has found an environment that will finally allow him to reach his true potential with an underrated WR duo to throw to in D.J. Moore and Robby Anderson along with one of the best receiving backs in the league. Plus Joe Brady is the perfect play-caller to get the most out of the 24-year-old.
