The ‘Best of the Day’ is a daily PSO original series showcasing the most significant stories, highlights, and facts going on in the land of the NFL, NBA, & MLB every day. Get a recap on EVERYTHING that happened on 6/9 here

CP3 had a historic night with 15 AST and no turnovers, leading the Suns to a 2-0 series lead over NBA MVP Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets. Seattle Mariners OF Jake Fraley robbed a walk-off HR from the Tigers that led to an extra-inning victory thanks to his own game-winning RBI. June 9th also marked the 34th anniversary of Magic Johnson‘s skyhook to win Game 4 of the 1987 NBA Finals.

Here is the best of the day from June 9, 2021:

Chris Paul’s nearly flawless game led the Suns blowout over the Nuggets in Game 2

The Suns were dominant in Game 1, and they did it again in Game 2. Phoenix blew out Denver by 25 points to take a 2-0 series lead, fueled by Chris Paul. CP3 had 15 assists without registering a single turnover on Wednesday night. He’s the first player in NBA history to record so many assists without turning it over once more than two times in the playoffs.

It is amazing that he can still string together these performances when it matters the most in his 16th season. His team is looking as good as anyone right now, and they can make a real run this postseason if he continues on this tear after taking down the reigning champs and without any proven title contenders in the way of his first career NBA Finals appearance.

CP3’S AGED LIKE FINE WINE & THIS IS HIS BEST CHANCE AT A CHAMPIONSHIP

This year’s postseason is as open as it has ever been before now that Phoenix sent the LA Lakers packing. There are no more proven title contenders left in the West, so it’s all up for grabs. In the past, Paul has been on some good teams but has had injury problems or had the juggernaut Golden State team in his way.

In his only conference finals series, CP3 had Houston up 3-2 but missed the final two games with a hamstring issue and they ultimately lost 4-3 to the eventual champions, the Golden State Warriors. Now, the Suns have a clear path to the Finals and it is riding on his shoulder and the team staying healthy to finally get that first Finals appearance in his illustrious career and get a chance to walk away with a legacy-defining Championship.
